Book review 07: Life is like a ten-speed bicycle

"I just found out we're in better shape than I thought we were!"

We always get some stresses from daily life. This book writes how to remove it with humor.

The Peanut is the comic books drawn by Charles M Schulz. The most famous character of the comic book is Snoopy. I have loved the dog since I was a little child, but never known that he is one of member of Peanut until I became a high school student. Snoopy is a so cute and clever dog, and other characters also  very lovely. However, the comic's contents are not. It is very philosophical. And I was surprised at the first time.

The books lists some comics. There are simple words in all stories, but they contain another mean, I think.

Book review 06: Who were the Beatles?

The Beatles are gone. John is gone. George is gone now, too. But not the music. That will live forever. (p.99)

Everyone knows the name of Beatles. They're one of the most famous musicians in the world.

I have known their name since I was a child. Thanks for my parents, I often listened to their song. My mother likes John the best, however, I love Paul.

This book introduces about themselves.First of all there is John, next is Paul, and George, lastly Ringo. I haven't known their past until then, and English written in thi book is not difficult, so this book is so usefull for me. I study a lot of things from this book. I found the book in TSUTAYA. that day the bookstore opened the sale, so I diciced to buy it. There are also another series.  I was interested in some of then, so I want to buy more before long.

Book review05 : Keep Calm and Carry ON

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honourable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."

It is said by Gorge Bernard Show. The word is I like the best in this book. This book puts down a lot of wise sayings. I found the book in London and bought soon. This size is not big, and it is easy to carry everywhere. This book has some categories, for example, there are strength in adversity, the good life, friendship, thrift, don't worry, and change.

The title "Keep Calm and Carry ON" is the propaganda poster of WWⅡ. It was produced by British government in 1939.  I had thought it is designed by Royal family for long time.

Book review 04: Frog Prince

There was a loud crash of thunder, followed by a shower of sparks. The frog had vanished. In his place stood a handsome young prince. (p.42)

This title is one of the most famous stories. But I don't know this story. It is funny, I think. There is a princess, Poppy. She is a selfish girl, and has been refusing to marry the prince who her father chose. Then she met a frog which helped her. The frog asked to treat him in her castle. Poppy disliked it, but the king welcomed. The night she thrown the frog from her room's window in spite of herself. After that, she gave a kiss to him! I can't believe her.  If I am Poppy, I never kiss to frog ! Anyway, then the frog changed to the prince who is handsome and kind. Lastly, Poppy married him.

Book review 03: Sorry, I'm British!

MINI

The newer model is both much more comfortable than the original, and a product of the BMW corporation. Which makes it about as British as a sauerkraut sandwich. (p.101)

I'm going to introduce this book. The book's name is "Sorry, I'm British!". I found and bought it in London.

This summer I went to London to study English phonetics. It was the first trip to London for me. Since I was child, I have been loving London. So the memory is the happiest thing. I visited British pubs, super markets, and shops other than famous places. And in the British Museum, I found this book. I also like reading books very much. But I didn't have enough money to buy it then, because I had already a lot of souvenirs. So I gave up to get this book.

However, the last day in London which I went to the Oxford Street with my friends, I found this book again. Because one of my friend said that he wanted to go to book store. Thanks to it, I could buy this book!

I was arrested its title. I feel it is indeed British and funny. In this book, there are a lot of explanations about British man from a to z. It's too interesting for me. But unfortunately, this book uses a little difficult words. However this book is so useful to study English. It takes a lot of time to read, but I want to finish reading.

Book review 02: british food

London particular

5. Shred the cooked ham trimmings and add to the soup. Reheat in the pan and simmer for a few more minutes before serving.
. (p.47)

I found this book in my university's library. I went to London this summer, and have been interested in British foods. This book has a lot of recipes and pictures.  I remember that the foods in London were not good taste. T
he funny thing is, almost foods in this book are also look unpleasant. However, there are some foods look delicious, and I want to make the Victoria Sandwich. But it needs 150g butter and sugar!!! I can't believe. General British foods have high calorific values.

Book review 01: The adventures of King Arthur

The lady walked across the water to Arthur and offered her hand. "My Lady," he said, bowing low. " I am here to ask for the sword."
"You may fetch it yourself," she said, with a smile.
"The sword's name is Excalibur." (p.28)

I have known this book's title but never read. Even I like UK, especially London. The sword's name, Excalibur is so famous and often used a lot of scene. After I finished reading this book, I felt the king was the role model of knight. On closet inspection, I knew that this story was treated as it actually. There are a lot of gentlemen in England. I think they're affected by him.

BR 2-18: England

"They came and visit some of the famous buildings in England. The Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliamont." (Escott, 2008, [p.6])

This book introduces about England. England is one of the "countries" of the U.K. There are the history of England and many famous places and buildings and cultures. I like this country since I was a child. That is why I read this book. It is written in an easy English, so I could understand soon.

I learned a lot of things about England from the book. England has ruled neighboring countries before. These are Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Even now, a part of Ireland is not returned. And I heard that if Scottish person is asked "Are you a English person?", they are angry.  In this way, the U.K. has complex problems.

If I can visit to England, I want to go to London first, and I'll go shopping. This summer it has a very big event. It is the Olympic. I want to visit there and watch the games directly!

BR 2-11: Princes and Princess

"Are you princely enough yo marry my daughter?" (Christopher, 2008, [p.4])

This book has four stories about princes and princess. My favorite story is the first one. One king has a daughter said a prince, "I don't give my daughter!" So the prince tried a lot of test gave from the king. He failed many times, but finally saved the life of the princess! Thanks for it, they could be married. Also, I like this princess because she is uniterested in her marrage. How the prince failed, she only laughed. I think it is so interesting and hope their happy.

BR 2-01: THE BEATLES

"Everything about the album was special --- even the cover. It showed the band with a crowd of famous people --- writers, singers, actors, thinkers. At first there was a photo of Mahatma Gandhi, but the record company asked the band to take it off. They didn't want to make people in India angry" (Shipton, 2002, p. 25).

I like the Beatles very much. That's why I chose this book. My parents also like them, so we often listen their song and music together.

I have 2 posters of them. One is the "Abbey Road". This is  a very famous album over the world. This book writes about it, too. After Abbey Road arrived in the shops in October 1969, a radio station in the US started a strange story.  They said Paul was dead! Because on the album's cover, he wasn't wearing shoes. In some countries, dead people are dressed in clothes but not shoes. My mother knows this story.  However, of course he is alive even now. I like Paul the best of four.  I think he is cool. And I like his voice.  But my mother says John is the best.

BR 1-02: Cinderella

"I'm sure the prince is in love with me."

This tale is known all over the world. I watched the DVD which the Walt Disney Company made, too. I think this story is very beautiful. Brother Grimm also put their hands on it. And there are same stories such as this story in the world, for example Greece, Egypt, and China.  In French, Cinderella is called Cendrillon.

I wonder the prince's real name. No one knows it. In old times, girls gave him the name her's lover. I think it's very very sweet thing! If I get someone who I falling love, I perform it.

BR 1-01: Through The Looking - Glass

"Alice began to remember that she was a Pawn, and that it would soon be time for her to move." (p.148)

This book is the continuation of the Alice in wonderland. This time, she goes to the country of mirrors. I read it when I was a elementary school student, and I have loved this story since then. I like this book more than Alice in wonderland, because characters appear on the second story are very strange and interesting. I have been fascinated by them. Of course, Alice is so cute, too. I think that Alice is admiration for all girls.
