I have known the name of Up since few years ago, but never watched it. And
I had been thinking that it was the story of an old man who just flies with his house.
However, this was not true. While watching the movie, from start to finish, I
was always crying. First of all, when Ellie died, Carl looked so sad. I also couldn’t stop
my tears from flowing. He was a quiet man, and in contrast, his wife was an active
woman. They also had no kids. So I thought their house stays silence after she went to
heaven. Practically, Carl doesn’t look happy since he lost Ellie. It is not only because of
living alone, but also because his house was surrounded by construction sites. However
the business people asked him to move, he refused. I think it is because the place is
important for Carl, because he met Ellie for the first time there and they had lived in the
house dreaming to go to a legendary waterfall in South America. I thought he wanted to
protect the house, the mailbox which they made, and other things that were part of their
memories.
I found Carl speaks more and became obstinant than when he was young
when he talks with Russell. But Russell, Dug, and Kevin made him kind while they
spent time together with him. I think the last scene’s Carl is his original state. He is a
strong man. Even though he was over seventy, he could do everything he wants to do.
Russell, Dug, and Kevin were obstructive characters for Carl at first. He was
thinking about just his wife and arriving at the legendary waterfall then. However,
without his knowledge, they became best friends to him. The second scene I cried was
then the two chairs were standing side by side even thought the other furniture was
falling. It expresses how Carl loves his wife, I think. Ellie wishes for his new adventure.
This adventure will bring new happiness to him.
