Letter to a Homestay Family

Hello, my name is Natsumi. Nice to meet you! I am really happy that I will be visiting you for a home stay. Thanks very much for agreeting to be my hosts.

First of all, please let me introduce myself. I am a nineteen years old girl, and I go to KGU in Japan. My birthday is in August. So, possibly I’ll spend my twentieth birthday with you! If it is true, I feel I am very lucky. I like listening to music, watching movies, and reading. Of course, I love talking with my friends and shopping, too. My family is my father, my mother, my father’s side parents, my younger sister. She is a college student. My father is a public servent, and my mother is a nurse. We live in Kumamoto, which is 1300 km from Tokyo.

By the way, I have some questions for you. How many people are there in your family? Can you speak Japanese? What rules about washing clothes and so on do you have? I’m happy if I can get a letter or e-mail from you before my departure. And I would appreciate a list of the necessary items need to prepare before leaving Japan if you can send a list.

I am very excited to see and learn about a different culture through you and other people that I may meet. I’ll bring some pictures of my hometown, and would like to show you. I’ve never been to foreign countries, so I’m looking forward to finding out all about how American people live. I also hope to let you know about Japan and Japanese people. I can’t speak English well, but I practice. Please help me.

Yours faithfully,
Natsumi
